The Rike Knife 1503 Frame Lock Flipper is another outstanding design in the line. Clean lines and superb ergonomics make a great every day user. This first batch is from a Run of approximately 200-215 Limited Edition pieces. This is reflected via an individual serial number on the back of each blade. The 1503 M390 Flipper is brand new direct from Rike Knife.
The Blade: A sheepfoot-styled blade comes standard on this model. Crafted from premium M390 super stainless steel and given a Tactical black acid washed finish. A scoop cutout on the spine welcomes your thumb while two small upper swedge grinds add character. Just over three inches of cutting edge on this one is quite sharp. It's deployed via a slightly hidden jimped flipper tab and just flies out of the handle on bearings. The spot-on detent we've come to expect from Rike is present.
The Handle: Full black washed titanium frame lock with milled lines for texture. All of the Ti is contoured with smooth edges for a comfy grasp. A titanium backspacer matches the handle. It is thick at both ends and thins out toward the center exposing some "space" between slabs. It also has no noticeable screws or pins exposed on the handle. Oversized "spoke" pivot and clip screws are a nice accent. The lockface on the lockbar features a steel insert that doubles as an over travel stop.
The 1503 is a pleasure to operate. Good luck putting this one down. A very cool added touch to this model is the steel glass breaker point at the bottom of the handle. This definitely will come in handy for our First Responders. It comes with a tip-up carry titanium pocket clip and Nylon belt pouch.About M390: Bohler M390 has become an extremely popular choice for high-end user grade knives thanks to its extreme edge retention. M390 also has a good corrosion resistance, meaning most users can avoid problems by simply wiping off their blade after each use. Another great feature of this steel is its ability to resist burr formation during sharpening. Comparable steels are CTS-204P and Duratech 20CV.
