New for Fall 2015 is a special Limited Sprint Run Endura 4 Lightweight featuring a very unique flat ground Laminate blade. The cutting edge and central core of this blade is a high-speed tool steel known as HAP40. Created using the powdered metallurgy process, HAP40 possesses outstanding toughness and high abrasion resistance. This core is bound by layers of SUS 410 martensitic stainless steel.
The handle is traditional FRN with bi-directional texturing Spyderco is so well-known for done in a handsome Burnt Orange coloring. Inside the handle are skeletonized stainless steel liners for added strength and stability over time. The handle is also drilled for a four-position clip configuration. This combined with the lock back mechanism makes this knife a true ambidextrous carry.
The transition between the core and outer layers is visible just above the blade's cutting edge. Sprint Run Endura 4 Lightweight in Burnt Orange with HAP40/SUS 410 Laminate blade is brand new direct from Spyderco Knives.
About HAP40 Tool Steel:
HAP40 contains generous amounts of tungsten, molybdenum, vanadium and cobalt. This combination creates exceptional toughness and high abrasion resistance. Both of which are key qualities of a superior blade steel. However, its relatively low chromium content (4.0%) makes it susceptible to corrosion. Regular maintenance and oil is required.
