For Spyderco's 40th Anniversary the company went ahead and pulled out all the stops. They started with a crowd favorite, the Native 5, and decided to make some big upgrades in the way of a Damasteel blade and fluted carbon fiber handle. A great looking 40th Anniversay etch has been placed across the blade marking this historic occasion. Only 1200 pieces are being produced in this limited edition run.
The Blade: Spyderco went with Damasteel on the 40th Anniversary Native, made of DS93X in a Thor pattern. The blade has a full flat grind, with upper swedge and both top and bottom jimping along the choil and thumb areas. Of course no Spyderco would be complete without the round hole opener and a razor sharp edge, both present on this knife.
The Handle: A striking carbon fiber handle was used on this knife, with a bold fluted pattern milled into the surface and a four way clip is attached for pocket carry.
About Damasteel: Damasteel is pretty much the bee's knees when it comes to damascus steel. It is produced using a more modern process, and will generally contain fewer impurities and imperfections since it is made in a more controlled environment. The end result is a more defined and cleaner piece of damascus steel over traditional methods of manufacturing.
