Benchmade 818 Mini Loco Axis Lock Black G10 S30V Tumbled Plain

Benchmade wanted to incorporate a more edgy, aggressive look into their line-up with the 808 Loco. The 818 Mini Loco modifies this design into a more EDC friendly platform with the same hard use concept. This stout folder has a thick G10 handle with a stainless liner and utilizes the patented AXIS lock system for smooth deployment. In keeping with the stout construction, the blade is robust and made of the tried and true CPM S30V for excellent performance. If you want a truly hard use EDC folder then the Mini Loco may be just what you've been waiting for.

Blade:The modified Sheepsfoot blade gives you a good combination of slicing and piercing performance and thanks to the high height saber grind still retains plenty of thickness for strength. The tumbled finish is excellent for hiding wear over time and the knife opens smoothly on phosphor bronze washers via the oval thumb hole.

Handle:Thick steel liners support both the beefy G10 handle scales and the AXIS lock mechanism and make the Mini Loco a rock solid folder. An open back construction and milled liners reduces weight and make for easy cleaning and maintenance. An oversize lanyard hole allows you to add your own personal touch to this tank-like EDC folder.

About the Axis Lock: When the Axis Lock first hit the market it began to shake things up in a big way. Knives were generally using either a liner lock or lock back mechanism at the time, and the frame lock wasn't largely adopted yet. Built using a pin riding on two omega springs, the Axis lock is one of the smoothest, strongest locks on the market today. It allows for ambidextrous use, and has been reported to support weight in excess of 200 pounds without damage.
