Possibly the strongest folding knife on the market, the 4-Max from Cold Steel highlights the Tri-Ad lock system and pairs it with a robust drop point blade all designed by knife maker Andrew Demko and built to his exact specifications. Demko developed the Tri-Ad lock system, a modified back lock that holds a substantial +800 pounds of free hanging weight in testing. The 4-Max delivers a folding knife with the maximum strength and performance possible with a 4" blade limit. This version comes with a stonewashed S35VN blade and green and black G10 handle scales.

Blade: The blade of the 4-Max is made from CPM-S35VN stainless steel with an extra wide drop point profile and rugged, wear hiding stonewashed finished. At nearly 5 mm thick this is one tough blade while the tall saber grind pairs with the height of the blade to deliver solid slicing performance. A nearly full length upper swedge reduces weight while the tip does well in piercing while maintaining good strength. Dual thumb studs make this knife fully ambidextrous in operation.

Handle: Made from 3D CNC machined and bead blasted G10, the handle is ergonomic and secure in the hand without the need for aggressive texturing. This give you smooth pocket transition and a full sized handle that will hold up over years of heavy use. The scales are secured to matte gray tumbled titanium liners and a solid back spacer creating superior strength while the Tri-Ad lock system delivers secure, reliable lockup for safe use. A hole is provided for lanyard attachment.

CPM S35VN: was designed to offer improved toughness over CPM S30V. It is also easier to machine and polish than CPM S30V and the adjusted chemistry makes CPM S35VN about 15-20% tougher than CPM S30V without any loss of wear resistance. CPM S35VN’s improved toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping.

Tri-Ad Lock: The Tri-Ad lock system functions like any back lock: pushing down on a spring in the rear of the handle releases the blade. It differs by adding a stop pin between the blade and back spring. This pin handles any pressure put on the knife and allows the spring to self adjust over time, resulting in a rock solid lock that can handle an absurd amount of weight in lock strength tests.
