Influenced by the iconic design of ancient Norse warriors, custom blade smiths Dave Baker and Rich McDonald teamed up with Lynn Thompson at Cold Steel to produce the Viking Hand Axe. With a wide, bearded edge, pointed toe and 30" straight grain American Hickory handle the Viking Hand Axe is a formidable cutting tool against hardwood or softer material.

Head: Made from differentially heat treated, drop forged 1055 carbon steel the head tapers gradually down from around 19 mm just past the eye to a thin, racing edge. The fast profile makes chopping efficient while the bearded profile is great for a close grip for fine work. The handle runs through the top of the eye in the traditional fashion for a secure fit and good resistance to vibration.

Handle: Made from genuine straight grain hickory the handle fits through the top of the head like a pick for greater resilience and is fixed securely in place with a set screw. The straight handle tapers toward the end and offers a secure and comfortable grip for a variety of tasks. Straight grain American Hickory is tough enough to handle some heavy use and easy to replace when the time comes. Includes a simple, plastic edge cover.

1055 High Carbon Steel: Simple, relatively low-carbon steel used in large, heavy-duty knives, throwing knives or chopping tools such as axes when toughness is the highest priority.
