CRKT Pilar Large Black D2 Voxnaes Design G10 Frame Lock Flipper 5315GKD2

Jesper Voxnaes designed the Pilar with the inspiration of Ernest Hemingway and his beloved sailboat the Pilar. The Pilar was a 38-foot long vessel that Hemingway used for renegade surveillance of German U-boats during WWII in Caribbean waters. He and CRKT are back again with the Pilar Large, a scaled up version of this amazingly popular design that also offers flipper deployment! The CRKT Pilar Large is a robust frame lock with a highly utilitarian, modified Sheepsfoot blade that is tough enough for heavy use while still retaining enough refinement for detail work. The Pilar Large has a longer blade and handle but only an increase in blade thickness by 0.1mm making for even better cutting performance. This version is the all Black Model with D2 tool steel blade and G-10 front scale.

Blade: The Pilar Large has a black oxide finished, modified Sheepsfoot blade with a nearly full flat grind for a high level of cutting efficiency. The robust tip still allows for fine work while being very durable. The blade opens smoothly with either hand via an oval blade hole or the integral flipper tab. The upgraded D2 tool steel blade offers enhanced edge retention with good corrosion resistance for a non-stainless steel.

Handle: The handles of the Pilar Large are constructed from robust, black coated stainless steel and black G10. The handles are contoured for comfort during long use and the the back scale makes up the robust frame lock that allows for safe use of the blade and one-hand operation. The G10 front scale offers enhanced traction and weight reduction for better carry.

Carries via a right hand, tip-up/down, stainless steel clip.

D2 Tool Steel: D2 is a cold work tool steel that has been used as a die cutting steel since WW II. D2 has a high chromium content for a tool steel (10-13%) which gives it greater corrosion resistance than most high carbon steels making it semi-stainless. D2 offers a good combination of toughness, corrosion resistance and wear resistance for a good all around knife steel.
