Spyderco Paysan Rassenti S90V Integral Titanium Frame C238TIP

The Spyderco Paysan is the second design collaboration between custom knife maker Peter Rassenti and Spyderco. This in another integral construction like the Nirvana but the devil is in the details and Spyderco has refined this model to perfection. Upgrades to the Paysan include: Stainless steel lock face with over-travel stop, stonewash finish on the CPM S90V blade and titanium handle, a taller saber grind and a Ball bearing pivot system.

The Blade: The super stainless steel blade has a high-height sabre grind with a utilitarian, Modified-Sheepsfoot blade profile. The modified sheepsfoot blade offers a robust tip and plenty of belly for slicing. The blade has a polished and stonewashed finish to match the handle while Spyderco's trademark RoundHole provides fast, bearing pivot enhanced deployment.

The Handle: Fully machined from a slab of titanium the integral construction includes a Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) mechanism with a hardened steel lock face insert that doubles as over-travel prevention. The insert provides smooth and reliable operation of the lock for the life of the knife. The frame is both thin and strong with a contoured shape and stonewash finish. A relief was added to topside for easier lock bar access and both sides of this section were thinned down for enhanced RoundHole access. A custom Torx pivot and right hand, tip-up only Hourglass pocket clip round out the construction.

CPM S90V is a martensitic stainless steel that provides excellent wear resistance and good corrosion resistance. CPM S90V offers much better wear resistance than 440C and D-2, while providing corrosion resistance equal to or better than 440C. The toughness of CPM S90V is slightly better than 440C. The high carbon content combines with the vanadium to form vanadium carbides, which provides the wear resistance, while leaving the chromium free to provide the corrosion resistance.
