As a tribute to the late custom maker Howard Viele, Spyderco has revived one of his most distinctive collaborations with Spyderco as a limited edition Sprint Run. The Phoenix is a dynamic folding knife design showcasing the patented Ball Bearing Lock paired with a hollow ground VG10 blade with signature three hole patterns near the spine, full titanium liners and contoured red G10 scales for a stunning collector's piece.

Blade: Made from satin finished VG10 stainless steel the skinner style drop point blade is equipped with a mid-height hollow grind for solid slicing performance, a tip swedge to enhance pairing and Viele's signature three-hole pattern near the spine. A generous index choil pairs with the downward angle of the blade to allow for excellent control and leverage for heavy use. Spyderco's +12 mm RoundHole allows for easy one hand operation. 

Handle: Satin finished titanium liners support contoured G10 partial scales which create a comfortable grip while reducing the overall mass of the knife and delivering a classy bolstered look. The liners house the Ball Bearing Lock mechanism which delivers smooth operation and exceptionally strong lockup for safety during use while retaining the ease of single-handed operation. The Phoenix rises from the ashes in this unusual, robust and visually appealing folder.

Ball Bearing Lock: One of Spyderco's strongest, smoothest operating lock mechanisms, the Ball Bearing Lock consists of a hardened steel ball bearing housed in the frame of the handle. When the knife is opened a spring plunger drives the ball bearing forward onto a ramp on the blade, wedging it securely open. Pulling back on the ball releases the lock and allows the blade to pivot smoothly closed. Operating the knife is easily performed with either hand without placing your fingers near the blade’s edge.

Japanese VG10: VG-10 is a high-carbon stainless steel that takes a very good edge and holds it well. Popular with Japanese kitchen knife makers it is often hardened to 60-61 HRC. A popular choice for small pocket knives thanks to good edge holding and stain resistance VG10 works well with a high polished, acute edge for optimal slicing performance.
