Details

Custom designer Trace Rinaldi interviewed numerous field operators, particularly snipers and HRT (Hostage Rescue Team) members in his development of the Direct Action Rescue Tool or DART. Executed in 5160 steel, the recurved belly and down tilted blade make chopping in close quarters a breeze, with economy of movement and energy. Actively used successfully by the Special Operations community in Europe, the USA and Canada this is a valuable asset for professional as well as outdoor enthusiasts. The DART comes with Black Traction Coated 5160 blade and Black Linen Micarta handles.

Brand new, direct from TOPS Knives, USA.

Blade: The recurve drop point blade is forward weighted for chopping with a modified saber grind that tapers toward the spine at the tip. This grind style delivers good balance and durability with enhanced piercing and slicing performance on the forward belly. Tough 5160 spring steel provided added durability with a non-reflective black traction coating for some corrosion resistance. Forward finger choil and spine jimping provide optimal control for finer tasks.

Handle: Beefy, full tang construction supports TOPS' classic Black Linen Micarta handle scales over contrasting white liners forming a robust, ergonomic handle. A forward guard and index choil deliver added safety with sections of jimping top and bottom for traction when chopping. An extended pommel end can be used as an impact tool and has a milled hole for lanyard attachment.

Sheath: Carries via a MOLLE compatible Nylon belt sheath.

5160 Carbon Tool Steel: 5160 Alloy Steel, also sold as AISI 5160, is a high carbon and chromium spring steel. It offers excellent toughness and high ductility. 5160 is commonly used in the automotive industry in heavy spring applications, especially for leaf springs. Chromium is added to increase hardening response and performs well in a wide range of hardnesses. It can be hardened up near the 60s for knives needing more edge holding.
