TOPS Nata Brown Burlap Micarta Acid Rain 1095 Japanese Chopper Fixed Blade TNAT-01

The Japanese Nata is an unusual tool in the West but this cleaver-like chopping knife has been in use as an agricultural and forestry multi tool in Japan for centuries. The TOPS Nata is Leo Espinoza’s take on this tool with a modern adaptation to the handle and blade design. The TOPS Nata has a full tang, 1095 tool steel blade with brown burlap Micarta handles and a leather belt sheath. This version comes with TOPS' Acid Rain blade finish.

Blade: Made from 1/4 inch thick 1095 high carbon tool steel the Nata has plenty of mass all the way out to the tip for powerful chopping tasks like pruning, limbing and splitting wood. The angled blade reduces fatigue and allows for precise cuts while the V-Grind offers familiar performance in use and sharpening. The mid-height saber grind provides a balance of cutting power and durability and delivers optimal splitting action. The acid etched and tumbled "Acid Rain" finish delivers a non-reflective finish that hides wear and offer a small amount of corrosion resistance.

Handle: The TOPS Nata maintains the pommel swell of the traditional version but trades the straight, tapered handle design prominent finger grooves which increases security in the hand for serious chopping tasks. The Brown Burlap Micarta handle scales are ergonomically designed and contoured to comfortably fill the hand for a secure grip and are connected to the handle via oversize Allen screws and dual hollow lanyard tubes. The handles provide a blend of comfort and security.

Sheath: Carries via a chocolate leather belt sheath.

1095 High Carbon Tool Steel: Highly popular, simple carbon steel. Used extensively by both production and custom knife makers. Low abrasive wear due to low carbide content but very tough and easy to sharpen. Not corrosion resistant and will rust without proper care. TOPS employs a differential heat treat that produces a harder edge and softer spine for enhanced performance.
