Designed by custom knife maker Jim O'Young and winner of the Blade Show 1999 "Most Innovative American Design" award the Synergy has been re-released in collaboration with WE Knives for its 20th Anniversary in the Synergy2 model. This version comes with gray, integral titanium handles with shredded carbon fiber inlays and a polished bead blast, compound ground, Tanto blade made from Bohler M390.
Blade: The compound ground tanto point blade is made from high performance Bohler M390 offering the best in both edge retention and corrosion resistance. The blade is finished with a polished bead blast finish that is akin to semi-gloss and is stylish minimally reflective. The primary hollow grind pairs with a full length swedge for a fine tip and razor sharp cutting edge. The tanto point is flat ground for added durability for powerful piercing performance. A ceramic ball bearing pivot and detent deliver fast, smooth blade operation.
Handle: The Integral handle design has clean lines with a subtle sweeping shape that is complemented by the curves of the blade. A central palm swell and some strategic jimping on the handles offers a secure grip with the fully contoured design is comfortable in the hand. The smooth integral spine of the handle adds durability, is comfortable in the hand in multiple grips and enhances the aesthetic appeal. The integral frame lock construction is outfitted with a hardened steel lock face insert for smooth, reliable operation on this deceptively simple folder. The highlight of this piece is striking shredded carbon fiber inlay that takes up a large part of the handle giving a unique and classy look as well as reducing the overall weight.
Carries via a right hand, tip-up only 3D machined titanium pocket clip.
Bohler M390: Bohler M390 has become an extremely popular choice for high-end user grade knives thanks to its extreme edge retention. M390 also has a good corrosion resistance, meaning most users can avoid problems by simply wiping off their blade after each use. Another great feature of this steel is its ability to resist burr formation during sharpening. Comparable steels are CTS-204P and Duratech 20CV.
