The Reate Knives New-Torrents Flipper features stunning lines and refinement that would give many custom knives a run for their money. Thick, contoured titanium handle slabs are smooth around the edges for comfort. On each side are rows upon rows of tiny machined lines adding almost unnoticeable grip. The light texture is there when you need it.
The frame lock bar with hardened steel lockface and blue Ti screw with over travel protection screams precision. An integral lanyard hole is perfectly cut through not only the handle slabs, but also the near-custom titanium backspacer. This is no ordinary spacer. Five divots down the back of it are anodized blue to match the Ti hardware on the Torrents. It is also blue on the bottom and sides so that just two thin lines of it show through on the top.
The handle is cool, but the star here just may be the harpoon-styled blade. Just exquisite satin finishes to the grinds and upper swedge with David's hair-popping sharp edge. The flats of the M390 that continue down to the tang, flipper and spine have a heavy stonewash. Not dark, just a consistent tumbling giving the Torrents a classic two-tone look.
The ceramic detent ball and ceramic ball bearings at the pivot give the Torrents a kick! The action is spot on. Not to hard, not to weak. Just right where you want a great flipper to be. The oversized dual blade stops can function as stud openers, but we think the Torrents was born to be flipped.
A Begg-inspired titanium pocket clip with large ceramic ball bearing retention is fixed in the tip-up right-hand carry position. It's nicely positioned just to the left of the lock bar so there's no added pressure when firing. David again continues to push the envelope of production knives and impresses with every new model. The New Torrents Flipper includes a Reate zipper pouch, microfiber cloth and extra hardware.
