The Alan Folts Baleen wraps the handle in Copper Core Brown acrylic, deep swirls lit with veins of bright copper, set against a hand-rubbed CPM-S35VN blade that carries a soft recurve and a top swedge.

• Copper Core Acrylic by J. Hue Customs — J. Hue Customs hand-swirls each acrylic block, pouring warm brown around streaks of bright copper. No two scales read the same. The polished surface stays smooth and cool under the fingers and shows real depth when it catches the light.
• Hand-Rubbed CPM-S35VN Blade — Alan Folts grinds a modified drop point with a slight swedge along the spine and a subtle recurve in the belly. The CPM-S35VN steel holds a keen edge through daily cutting. The hand-rubbed finish shows fine lengthwise lines along the flats.
• Thumb Stud or Top Flipper — The Baleen opens two ways. Press the bronze thumb stud for a slow, deliberate roll, or nudge the top-mounted flipper tab for a fast one-handed snap. Either method works without shifting your grip on the handle.

About Alan Folts

Alan Folts is a custom knifemaker who works by hand out of a shop in Palm Bay, Florida. He found metalwork as a teenager, shaping jewelry from copper and brass before moving into forged blades. An early knife of his took Best of Show at a student art competition, and he went on to make knives full time after settling in North Carolina in the mid-1990s. That sculpture background still drives the work, from flowing handle shapes to warm anodized hardware, and he pays it forward by teaching the craft to newer makers whenever his time allows.
