Details

The Chuck Hawes Custom Wharncliffe Whittler is a custom design by Hawes and offers his modern take on this classic slip joint design. Strikingly figured Ironwood handle scales are flush fit to Damascus bolsters over stainless steel liners. The handles house a razor sharp, W2 carbon steel blade with Hamon line and custom file-work.

Brand new directly from Chuck Hawes, USA.

Blade: With a clean, sans-nail nick design, the Whittler-style Wharncliffe blade is opened with a pinch grip and comes with a razor sharp convex grind. Made from W2 tool steel, the blade is embellished with a custom Hamon similar to what you would find on classic Japanese blades for a stunning look. The straight edge and fine point are perfect for small wood working projects while the file work along the spine adds a custom feel.

Handle: Stainless steel liners support the Damascus steel bolsters which are fit perfectly to the Ironwood covers. A full length steel back spring rounds out the handle construction offering secure, slip joint operation.

W2 Tool Steel: W2 is a Water hardening tool steel popular with custom knife makers, beginners and seasoned experts alike. Maximum working hardness is in 63-65 HrC, W2 has good edge holding and cutting performance with a thin edge and moderate toughness depending on the heat treatment. High carbon, low chromium gives no added corrosion resistance. Maintain accordingly.
