Details
Possibly the strongest folding knife on the market, the 4-Max from Cold Steel highlights the Tri-Ad lock system and pairs it with a robust drop point blade, all designed by knife maker Andrew Demko and built to his exact specifications. The 4-Max Scout offers a more budget friendly platform with an AUS10A stainless steel blade, Griv-Ex polymer handles and steel liners while delivering the same impressive strength as the original.
Brand new, direct from Cold Steel.
Blade: The blade of the 4-Max is made from AUS10A stainless steel with an extra wide drop point profile and rugged, wear hiding stonewashed finished. At nearly 5 mm thick this is one tough blade while the tall saber grind pairs with the height of the blade to deliver solid slicing performance. A nearly full length upper swedge reduces weight, while the tip does well in piercing while maintaining good strength. Dual thumb studs make this knife fully ambidextrous in operation.
Handle: Course textured Griv-Ex injection molded polymer forms durable and high traction handles with an ergonomic design and secure grip in the hand. The full sized handle accommodates a variety of hand sizes and will hold up over years of heavy use. The scales are supported by nested stainless steel liners and a solid Griv-Ex back spacer creating superior strength while the Tri-Ad lock system delivers secure, reliable lockup for safe use. The 4 Max Scout has passed all of Cold Steel's shock and impact tests and held 600 lbs. of free hanging weight. A hole is provided for lanyard attachment.
Carries via a reversible, tip-up stainless steel pocket clip.
Japanese AUS-10 Stainless Steel: Similar to AISI 440C, AUS10 offers excellent corrosion resistance, good edge retention and easy sharpening. For AUS-10A the "A" at the end indicates the steel is annealed after the rolling which does not affect the blade performance.
Tri-Ad Lock: The Tri-Ad lock system functions like any back lock: pushing down on a spring in the rear of the handle releases the blade. It differs by adding a stop pin between the blade and back spring. This pin handles any pressure put on the knife and allows the spring to self adjust over time, resulting in a rock solid lock that can handle an absurd amount of weight in lock strength tests.
