Details

The OLF or Ohta Light Folder from Japanese custom knife maker Hiroaki Ohta is a traditional slip joint folder with modern style and attention to detail, like the raised and file worked spine, that make this knife stand out from the crowd. This version comes with a satin finished D2 tool steel blade and Narra Wood Amboyna Burl handles.

Brand new, direct from Hiroaki Ohta.

Blade: The 3 inch drop point blade is made from flat ground, satin finished, D2 tool steel and is ultra thin for optimal cutting performance. A very generous nail nick is provided for opening with a milled cutout in the liner allowing easier access. The knife opens on a traditional slip joint mechanism with a moderated half-stop (call it a pause) for added security while providing ease of operation paired with a moderate back spring tension.

Handle: Handsome and durable, polished Amboyna Burl Wood handle scales are attached to polished stainless steel liners with matching pins. Half of the back spring rides proud to the liners and features decorative file work for a custom look and feel. The OLF has solid walk and talk and smooth operation. The slim construction of the OLF calls to mind a classic Bird & Trout knife but works well as an every day carry and utility folder.

Carries in a black leather pocket slip pouch.

D2 Tool Steel: D2 is a cold work tool steel that has been used as a die cutting steel since WW II. D2 has a high chromium content for a tool steel (10-13%) which gives it greater corrosion resistance than most high carbon steels making it semi-stainless. D2 offers a good combination of toughness, corrosion resistance and wear resistance for a good all around knife steel.

Amboyna Burl: Not a distinct species, but is the name of the burl wood from the Pterocarpus species, Amboyna Burl is typically Narra wood which has moderate hardness, good weather resistance and finishes well. Amboyna Burl is highly prized for the beautiful figuring and is among the most expensive and sought-after of all burls. Often used in fine furniture, turned objects, electric guitar tops and other specialty items.
