Shire Post Mint | Leif Ericsson Silver Vinland Coin
Vinland, a Viking America
The abandoned Norse colony of Vinland is believed to be the first European settlement in North America. Founded by the Icelandic explorer Leif Ericsson, Vinland did not last long enough to have a currency. Shire Post Mint supposes an alternate history wherein Vinland had progressed to the minting of coins. Struck from solid silver, the coin design was inspired by historical ancient viking coins and uses similar imagery and chisel-engraving techniques. It features Leif Ericsson and the words "Vinland Moneta", translating to "Vinland Money."
Coin artwork by Greg Franck-Weiby.
Minting process
Treated to look as if it has been handled and circulated, this process is done by hand, and it is both an art and a science, coloring and patinas will vary. No two are exactly the same.
Coins are struck one at a time in the USA using antique machinery and traditional coining techniques. A colorful description is included with history and facts about the coin.
