There is a long history of Memento Mori, symbolic reminders of the transience of human existence and the inevitability of death. Memento Mori art, including coins, generally feature hour glasses, clocks and skulls. Shire Post Mint has added their own spin with a new reverse side, “Memento Vivere” which translates to “remember that you have to live.” This symbolizes a beautiful balance between accepting our mortality and embracing life.

Minting process

Treated to look as if it has been handled and circulated, this process is done by hand, and it is both an art and a science, coloring and patinas will vary. No two are exactly the same. 

Coins are struck one at a time in the USA using antique machinery and traditional coining techniques. A colorful description is included with history and facts about the coin.
