Details

The TOPS Knives CUMA Kage (Pronounced KU-MA KA-GAY), means "Shadow" in Japanese and was inspired by the Arashikage (Storm Shadow) Clan from the popular GI Joe comic book series. Sijo Waysun Johnny Tsai is a lifelong martial artist and world-renowned self-defense instructor and previously designed the CUMA TAK-RI, associated with the GI JOE Ninja Commando Snake Eyes. He wanted to create a functional Snake Eyes Sword without making it identical to the comic series sword. He built it around his favorite Escrima stick length, 24 inches, a perfect length for close range combat with an edged weapon or stick. With collaborative input from the TOPS team and Roland Hinojosa III, the CUMA Kage was born.

Brand new directly from TOPS Knives, USA.

Blade: Differentially heat treated 1095 gets the classic Black Traction coating for a non-reflective tactical look and added corrosion resistance. The tip was modified for enhanced durability and chopping power and triple fullers on each side of the blade enhance balance by reducing weight. This is a bush sword that could replace an axe and fell a tree as well as remove an enemy's limb in combat.

Handle: The full tang construction supports the layered Tan and Black Canvas Micarta handle scales attached with robust, black oxide hardware. Micarta is exceptionally durable while providing a comfortable and secure grip even when wet. A generous forward guard and a striking Punyo tip at the pommel frame the ergonomically designed handle.

Sheath: Carries via a custom molded Kydex sheath with leather dangler.

1095 High Carbon Steel: Highly popular, simple carbon steel. Used extensively by both production and custom knife makers. Low abrasive wear due to low carbide content but very tough and easy to sharpen. Not corrosion resistant and will rust without proper care. TOPS utilizes a differential heat treatment for optimal performance in both durability and edge retention.

IDW GI JOE: During the prototype stage, IDW comic book / GI Joe artist Robert Atkins agreed to upgrade the official Snake Eye's sword in the comic book with the CUMA KAGE. That story arc written by GI JOE legend Larry Hama, is GI JOE: SNAKE HUNT and runs in GI JOE: A Real American Hero issues numbered 266-276.
