The Blade: Craig made this beautiful damascus by blending 1080 carbon steel with high nickel content (2%) 15N20 steel. 15N20 is a steel produced by Bohler originally marketed for use as bandsaw blades in sawmills. Its high nickel content is what makes it ideal for welding damascus as it is the layer of steel that produces bright contrasts in layers. Known for toughness, 15N20 is easy to sharpen and will take a fine edge. Craig formed his damascus into a slight-bellied spear point style blade, hollow ground and upper swedged. It actually breezes along on a set of ball bearing pivot systems for buttery smooth flipping. Absolutely stunning blade on the El Diablo.

The Handle: Full length titanium liners provide the support on this piece. What Craig comfortably contoured and secured to them are the real stars of the show. These scales, wow. Simply stunning. Each one is an individual piece of carbon fiber that's been injected with two rare red/black carbon fiber dovetailed inlays. They're positioned perfectly with Torx screw construction. This balisong would be considered "sandwich" construction as it is built in layers and not a single piece of material. This construction is "open" meaning you can see all the way thru with two barrel spacers keeping things together. The handle is substantial, but of course lightweight. It has great thickness felt immediately that you don't find in production balisongs. The open air construction will also be a cinch to keep clean. One of the barrel spacers is connected to the knife's spring latch locking mechanism. These are great and easy to use. Simply squeeze the handle to "pop" the latch out to open or close. It operates the same to lock the knife open and closed.
