Details

With Continental Blue India Jigged Bone covers and a bomb shield, this Great Eastern Cutlery #72 French Creek Trapper is a mid-size two-blade traditional pocket knife, its 1095 carbon steel clip and drop point blades cut for fine-tip and belly work.

  • 1095 Carbon Steel Blades - The long clip main handles detail work and the drop point secondary takes the heavier push cuts. 1095 sharpens easily on a plain stone, though it will rust if you put it away wet. Wipe both blades down after use and keep a light oil on them.
  • Continental Blue India Jigged Bone Covers - Each cover is jigged long and deep, with ridges that can be felt under the hand. The covers are fitted with a bomb shield between nickel silver bolsters at both ends, with brass liners and brass pins holding the frame together.
  • Two Stiff Backsprings - Each blade rides its own spring with a firm pull and a hard snap at both ends. Nothing wanders open in a pocket and nothing drifts shut mid cut. Plan on two hands and a thumbnail you trust until the springs break in.
  • Broad Trapper Frame - Two backsprings sit side by side in this frame, and the handle is built wide enough to carry both without pinching. It fills more of the palm than the closed length suggests, and the width gives your fingers a flat to press against on a long job.

The Great Eastern Cutlery #72 French Creek Trapper

The Great Eastern Cutlery #72 French Creek Trapper is a full size two blade jack built on a frame Great Eastern Cutlery has run for years as a lockback hunter. The trapper version trades the lock for two backsprings and a pair of working blade shapes. That puts it closer to a farm knife than a slim pocket folder. The name comes from the creek that runs south through Crawford County and joins the Allegheny on its way to Pittsburgh, a few miles from the Great Eastern Cutlery shop where the knives are pinned and finished by hand.
