The Spyderco Edgerati with a serrated satin S30V blade looks like it rolled out of a race shop. Gray aluminum scales are pierced like the frame of a birdcage Maserati, and the toothy edge chews through rope and strapping.

• Satin S30V Serrated Blade - The full flat grind runs serrated from choil to tip and saws through rope, webbing, and cardboard. CPM S30V is a balanced premium stainless that holds an edge and resists rust, though it takes more work to sharpen than softer steels.
• Birdcage Aluminum Handle - Each scale is machined from solid aluminum, pierced in a geometric pattern drawn from the frame of the birdcage Maserati, hardcoat anodized gray and fitted with bright hardware. The openings take weight out of the handle.
• Compression Lock - A stainless steel lock bar nests in a machined pocket in the front scale, and the cutouts leave it in plain view. The Compression Lock is known for strong lockup and lets you close the blade with your fingers out of its path.

The Spyderco Edgerati

The Spyderco Edgerati comes from co-founder Sal Glesser, a longtime sports-car enthusiast. He took the pierced frame of the birdcage Maserati as the starting point, and the handle follows that logic: aluminum cut from solid, then opened up everywhere the material was not doing structural work. Strength comes from the shape instead of from mass, which is why a knife with a blade this size stays this light. The cutouts also leave the stainless lock bar exposed, so the part that holds the blade open is visible before you ever open it.
